Shizuo Heiwajima x Fem!Reader~Lessons In Life

I wanted to try writing something for Shizuo since I really like him in Durarara!! so enjoy my attempt at giving the Toughest Guy in Ikebukuro some love~! Also this is the first time I'm trying this format so forgive me if it looks weird...oh well enjoy anyway~!

Love begins with a single hello.

Shizuo had no idea how to feel about you. He was happy, no, ecstatic that you didn't fear him or hate him for his uncontrollable strength and temper. If fact, that was what drew you to him all those years ago back at Raira Academy. You had just started your first year while Shizuo was in his third, and the first thing you saw on arrival was Izaya using you as a human shield from Shizuo. Shizuo was so enamored by you that he ceased his rage in an effort to get you away from the flea. An act that you greatly appreciated.


Friends are the loved ones that accept your every flaw and chose to stay with you.

Shizuo was certainly pissed that he couldn't kill Izaya, but as he was dragged away by you and then bombarded by your excited questions of just how strong he actually was, he couldn't help but compare you to a child on a sugar high, a cute child, that is. Thus began the friendship of you and Shizuo, a pact that lasts to this day and many more to come.


The secret to happiness is the acceptance of yourself.

Ever since then, you would always make an effort to make sure that Shizuo was happy at least once a day. He didn't understand your persistence to improve his happiness. Shizuo had long since given up on accepting himself as someone capable of loving someone else, but with you it was different, he felt as if you thought of him as someone both normal and abnormal, but that was okay with you, you cared about him either way.


Being kind is more important than being right.

At the same time though, he hated it that you would also show Izaya, his own worst enemy, the same kindness that you showed him. Part of him understood though, you were the type of person who would do anything for those you cared for. It didn't piss him off any less though when he would see you at Izaya's heel like an obedient pup following it's master, trying to ask him questions with the same enthusiasm that you had when questioning him. It made Shizuo sick to his stomach to think that you could enjoy being with Izaya just as much as you enjoyed being with him.

You tried to explain to him that it wasn't that you felt any special feelings for the fleabag, though you always referred to him in a much more affectionate way, it was just that it was easier for you to be nice to him than waste your time hating him. That just wasn't who you were. You truly were an angel in his eyes.

Even after Shizuo and Izaya graduated from Raira and you were left on your own, Shizuo would always make an effort to be there for you. Whether to help with homework or projects or even just waiting for you after school so he could make sure you got home safely. Unfortunately Izaya had the same idea on some days but you managed to calm Shizuo down enough to allow both boys to walk you home, only for the fight to resume immediately after you closed the door.


Cherish those that you love, you never know if you'll see them again.

Still, Shizuo would be an idiot to deny that you had a positive effect on him, he would always wake up eager to see how you would try to make him happy that day. He was disheartened once he found out that you would be moving away for a few years to attend university. The thought alone was enough for Shizuo to get depressed, he didn't know if he could handle not seeing your face every day trying some hair-brained scheme to get him to smile or laugh or just be happy in general. However, he was pleasantly surprised when you said that you would make it a personal goal of your's to text him everyday. That was the first time that Shizuo realized that he loved you.

After you graduated and returned to Ikebukuro, the first thing you did was surprise Shizuo at his work. Shizuo almost didn't recognize you, you matured so much at university that you may as well have been a whole new person, but you still had those same sparkling eyes and goofy smile that made Shizuo fall in love with you even more. That was also when you were introduced to Tom and Shizuo's boss, and you immediately hit it off with them, which didn't surprise Shizuo in the slightest, you always were the type to have a wide variety of friends both far and wide. Shizuo was then given the rest of the night off to spend with you, and the two of you definitely made the most of it.


Music is one of the most supreme expressions of life. It is art in it's most transitory form. It is gone within an instant, and therefore, extremely precious.

At some point during the night, you and Shizuo were hanging out in a park and found some street performers and decided to have some fun. You jumped onto one of the fountains and began to sing when Shizuo had his back turned. Never before had anyone heard you sing, so when Shizuo heard a new, bombastic voice start to sing it's heart out, he was more than surprised to find you with a small crowd clapping along to the beat and even some of the other performers joining in to complete the show. He smiled on as he watched you have a blast and let loose. He even got a small chuckle out of seeing you dancing around with a couple of kids from the crowd. He realized just how happy you made him just by being your goofy, lovable self, and he knew that you were the one for him.


Often those who aren't the easiest to love are the ones who need it the most.

As if the universe loves messing with him, Izaya showed up to mess with Shizuo and steal you away from him, only for Shizuo to pick up a trashcan and threaten Izaya with it. Before either could begin the fight, you intervened and defended Izaya. You explained to Izaya that you would hang out with him some other time, but now you had something important to talk to Shizuo about.

By some miracle, Izaya agreed to relent for the night but didn't go without hugging you and rubbing it in Shizuo's face. After he was gone, you dragged Shizuo off to some private part of the park and were about to receive a lecture before you shut him up with a kiss. It took a few seconds for Shizuo to respond, and when you both pulled away, you said only three little words to him. The three words he had been waiting to hear leave your lips since the moment he met you.

"I love you."
