I'm gonna try something a little different here, hopefully it works!
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

You tossed and turned in your sleep. Images of your previous life flashed across your mind in quick succession as you desperately tried to silence them. Distant voices called you "traitor" and "monster" while heavy chains bound you to the mist covered ground and hot tears wet the blindfold secured around your head. Your throat burned in agony as your screams tore through whatever dark abyss you were currently in.

A new, malevolent voice quietly made it's way into your mind while heavy footsteps creaked and groaned until they stopped right in front of you. Not a moment later was the cold feeling of a blade pressed against your aching throat and a dark chuckle buried itself inside your head.

"I hope you are happy with yourself, (Name). You are now just like your idol, Shay, a traitor to the Brotherhood and a filthy Templar." The blindfold was forcefully ripped off and you could finally see, a residual blur remained at the edge of your vision from your tears, but now you could finally see who this being was. The monster was Achilles, the leader of the Assassin's. However, he was very different from before, everything about him was much more sinister than you vaguely remember him to be, and his eyes seemed to be emanating a blackish aura that terrified you down to your core. You tried to get a good look at your surroundings to find out where you were.

It was then that you also saw your worst nightmare.

The lifeless bodies of your closest friends lay scattered around the ground, Gist was slumped against the wall with a bloody and rusty chain wrapped around his neck while Haytham laid face down in a puddle of his own blood that was still flowing outwards. You cried out in anger as you tried to go to their sides, only to fall back to the ground and sob. Achilles gave you a scowl as he dragged something along the ground that fell in front of you with a quiet groan. You raised your head and stared in shock that Shay was still alive. However, he was beaten to a bloody pulp and couldn't see out of his left eye, which was swollen beyond anything you have ever seen. You sobbed more intensely as Shay gave you a weak smile and tried to reach out to you. You resisted against the chains with renewed fervor until you were tantalizingly close to slipping through until you saw Achilles raise his sword into the air and bring it down. You screamed out to Shay to move but it was too late.

"SHAY!" You screamed out as your body was taken aback by the force that you woke up and sat up in your bed, you immediately felt the whiplash and fell out of bed and onto the cold floor of your room. You rubbed your head to soothe the pain and moaned when you felt that your head was pounding. You tried to stand up but had to use your bed to support yourself. Your breath hitched in your throat when you heard several pairs of footsteps pounding against the floorboards and immediately knew what was to follow.

"(Name)!! What's wrong?!" Shay wasted no time in barging into your room and running to your side, meanwhile Haytham had his sword at the ready and was scanning the room for any intruders and Gist had both of his guns ready and willing to shoot anything out of place.

"I'm f-fine, guys.." You said quietly as tears pricked at the corners of your eyes. Shay saw that you were about to start crying and enveloped you in a bear hug, you gripped onto his shirt and buried your face into his shoulder as the well of tears inside you finally broke.

"You are obviously not fine, my dear. Now tell us what happened." Haytham stated as he sat next to you on the bed and noticed that the back of your head was hurt. He then gently placed his hand on your head to find out where it was injured. You winced at the pain and tightened your grip on Shay until the pain ebbed away into a throbbing numbness. You felt a fresh wave of tears spill through as Gist took off his hat and placed it on your head and flashed you a smile.

"N-nightmare....The Assassin's k-killed you all and m-made me watch...I tr-tried to stop them b-but I was tied up and-and-and....." Your body was racked with sobs as Shay tightened his hold on you and did his best to soothe you until your crying died down to quiet sniffling.

"It's all right now, lass. None of us are going anywhere, so no more crying okay?" You nodded as you rubbed your eyes of any remaining tears and yawned. You failed to see that each one of them gave you a small smile at your tired state.

"If that is all, we should be returning to our rooms for the night, tomorrow is a big day and we all need to well rested." Haytham brought his hands behind his back and walked out of the room, eager to return to his own quarters and back to sleep.

"Shay, you coming?" Gist questioned as he took one last look at the two of you, your eyes were closed as you buried your face into Shay's broad chest and wrapped your arms around his middle, while Shay was smiling at you and petting your hair to coax you into falling asleep.

"I think I'll stay with (Name) for the night, It'll do her some bit of good to be with someone to help her get back to sleep." As if to prove his point, you tightened your grip on Shay to prevent him from leaving your side. Shay looked down at you and saw that you were giving him your famous "kicked puppy" look which made him chuckle.

"Whatever you say, goodnight you two!" Gist gave a small smile and laugh as he shrugged his shoulders and walked back to his own room.

"We should be getting some sleep too, lass. Haytham wasn't kidding when he said that we'll need to be rested up for tomorrow." You nodded silently as you pulled away from Shay to allow him to lay down on the bed. Once he was comfortable, he motioned for you to give him a hug, which you gladly accepted, and pulled the covers over the two of you. He let his one hand settle at the small of your back as the other cradled the back of your head. You snuggled up to him and buried your face into his chest and happily sighed as he placed his chin on top of your head.

"Thank you Shay, for everything.." Shay hummed his response as you drifted into unconsciousness, unaware that Shay instinctively tightened his hold on you once he felt his own drowsiness edging him into sleeping.

Things were not always like this, this semi-peaceful life with people caring for each other, in fact, a short time ago, you would be running from the very people you loved. You were an Assassin, a skilled one at that. But that all changed the night that Achilles gave you the mission to hunt down a high ranking Templar, with the possibility of killing a traitor and the Grand Master as a bonus. But things went sideways very quickly and you had to escape fast. You were cornered by the guards on the edge of a cliff and had to make the decision to live and be tortured by your foes, or die in battle with honor. You made the decision to die by the rocks of the cliff, and you dove into the freezing waters below.

Until you awoke the next morning to the sound of voices, head in excruciating pain and not remembering anything, you opened your eyes and immediately panicked when you saw the giant swords and guns that these strangers where carrying and ran into town, thus starting a wild chase through the city with armed strangers trying to question you. Needless to say, they managed to corner you in one of the cities many back alleys. However, they were very impressed by your skills and questioned you until you told them that you had no idea who you were, where you were, or why you could do the things you did.

Whether feeling pity or sympathy for you in your almost pathetic state, The men who found you offered to let you stay with them until your memory was restored. You then learned that the first man you met after losing your memory was named Shay Patrick Cormac, and the other man was Haytham Kenway. You had asked them if they knew who you were before loosing your memory, but they didn't know anything about you. You decided to try to figure out who you used to be while Shay and Haytham were reteaching you about everything, which is also how you learned about Shay and Haytham being Templars.

This caused you to remember of your previous allegiance to the Assassin's, but none of the men knew that because you had made the decision to abandon your robes in order to get closer to the Templar's so you could kill them, which, obviously, failed. You decided that even though you had some idea who you were, that you would stay with the Templars. They were kind, loyal, and helped you when you were lost, alone and scared. Shay even took you under his wing and retaught you how to fight, pilot his ship, the Morrigan, and survive if you were ever lost in an unknown location. Haytham took it upon himself to teach you the history of the Templars and Assassins while Gist showed you how to have some fun. You were happy with them, maybe even more happy than when you were with the Assassins, but you couldn't know for sure if that was true or not.

"(Y/n), wake up lass, it's time for the ceremony." Shay spoke in an excited tone as you opened your eyes and sprung out of bed to get ready. Today was the day that you would be officially welcomed among the Templar Order, Haytham was leading the ceremony and everyone was going to be there. You ushered Shay out of the room so you could change, you were giddy with anticipation as you changed out of your nightwear and into the clothes that Shay had given you when you first agreed to stay. It was very similar to Shay's only that it was smaller and more suited to your figure. You did a double take in the mirror as you realized what was about to happen.

You were about to become a member of the Templars, you were about to dedicate yourself to the pursuit of knowledge to better mankind and to give your life to your cause and for your fellow members. At the same time, the opposite side settled into your mind as well, you were now a traitor to the Brotherhood of Assassins and were now serving what is supposed to be your greatest enemies. You would now be hunted by the Assassins for as long as you lived and would probably never be able to return home. You stomach and heart ached with the notion that your family, if you even still had one, would probably never see their little girl again until it's all over the newspaper with text and pictures of your dead body. You eventually calmed yourself down and remembered that Shay and the others were your family now, and that you would be willing to die for any of them.

"I can do this, it's what I've been preparing for, and now I'm finally ready to take my place as a Templar!" You strolled out of the room with new found confidence and walked with Shay to the meeting room. The only light in the room was the candles on the table as it silhouetted the other members, with Haytham standing at the head of the table. You couldn't see him through the shadows but you could sense his hardened gaze on you. You gripped the hilt of your sword and slowly unsheathed it along with your twin pistols and placed everything on the large oak table in front of you and stood back at attention. You tried to swallow the lump in your throat just as Haytham began the speech.

"Do you swear to uphold the principles of our order and all that for which we stand?"

"I do." You nod.

"And never to share our secrets nor divulge the true nature of our work?"

"I do." You nodded once more.

"And to do so from now until death - whatever the cost?"

"I do." You nodded one final time before Haytham stepped out of the shadows, he looked way more intimidating than the kind and wise man you were used to when the candles cast him in a much more ethereal glow.

"Then we welcome you into our fold, sister." Haytham gave you a brief look before walking around the table and in front of you, he motioned for your right hand with his own and you gladly placed your small hand on his much larger one. He then signaled to one of the other members to give him a small golden chest with ornate markings on it. The chest opened to reveal a singular ring with the Templar cross designed where a gemstone would normally be held. Haytham then gently grabbed your hand and slipped the ring onto your ring finger, you couldn't stop yourself from smiling and admiring the ring after he slipped it on your hand.

"You are now a Templar, harbinger of a New World." You looked up at Haytham and saw that Haytham was actually giving you a ghost of a smile as he stepped away from you and spoke the last words of the creed.

"May the Father of Understanding guide us." The rest of the group then repeated Haytham's words and ended the ceremony. Shay, Haytham, and Gist immediately congratulated you and made the decision to go out for drinks. You stayed behind and smiled at the sight in front of you, your new family of fellow Templars. You raised your hand and once again admired the ring now situated on your finger, you then closed your eyes and placed your hand over your heart and repeated the saying to yourself.

"May the Father of Understanding guide us."
There is some graphic stuff in this but no where near anything that warrants a mature content warning
I own nothing except this story.
I can't help it, Assassin's Creed interpretation of history is way more fun than actual history.
